The light stick consists of a plastic tube, sealed at its ends, containing two separate chemical compounds separated by a low-strength glass capsule. The rupture of this capsule, which is done by bending the plastic tube, has the effect of mixing the two products and producing light by chemical reaction, without external energy input (chemiluminescence producing light by fluorescence).
Once the tube is “activated”, the continuous mixing of the reagents produces low-intensity light, which cannot be easily stopped before the reagents are fully consumed. However, the reaction is noticeably slowed by the low temperatures, and on the contrary strongly accelerated by the heat and mixing of the reagents (obtained by shaking the tube). The duration of illumination varies according to the models (from five minutes to twelve hours at room temperature); this is, to a certain extent, inversely proportional to the intensity of the light produced. Models with a lifetime of twelve hours produce light comparable to the light produced by the flame of a candle.
Important: Keep the package in the glove box of your jet in case of check so that the validity date can be justified.
